DIN EN ISO 16890

Test standard for air filters for general ventilation

According to ISO 16890, particle air filters are tested for the ISO groups ISO Coarse, ISO ePM1, ISO ePM2,5 and ISO ePM10. This includes air filters with a degree of separation of less than or equal to 99% for the ePM1 aerosol fraction and more than 20% for the ePM10 aerosol fraction. The DIN EN ISO 16890 series of standards replaced DIN EN 779 in 2018.

The DIN EN ISO 16890 standard includes the following tests:

  • Measurement of the fractional efficiency and the pressure difference at the untreated air filter (according to Part 2, ISO 16890)
  • Conditioning method to determine the minimum fractional test efficiency (according to Part 4, ISO 16890)
  • Measurement of the fractional efficiency and the pressure difference at the conditioned air filter (according to Part 2, ISO 16890)
  • Determination of the gravimetric efficiency and the pressure difference versus the mass of test dust captured (according to Part 3, ISO 16890)
  • Classification based on the degree of particulate matter efficiency (ePMx) or gravimetric efficiency (according to Part 1, ISO 16890)
